It’s so easy as moms to put ourselves last on the to-do list that is already a mile long. You have so many job titles…Mom, chauffeur, chef, event planner, house cleaner. Sometimes the last thing on that list is “person.” But it really is important to put self-care on that to-do list and stick with it. Here are a few easy ways to make sure you take care of yourself too!
1. Get Moving
Don’t even try to ask me at 6 AM tomorrow when my alarm goes off…but getting your body moving most days of the week is really important for feeling happy everyday. It can be something as simple as a short 20 minute walk. The key is to find something you love. For me that is a spin class! Need something else to get you motivated to get out and move? 2. Take a Bath
Ok, so this one isn’t rocket science. It is, however, one of those things that gets put on the to do list when you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed and gets taken off the list by the end of the night because you want an extra half a hour or work or clean or finish that TV show. But some time unplugged in the tub is a great way to wind down at the end of the night and help your mind prepare to sleep. 3. Enjoy a Glass of Wine
Now, here’s the deal. You can’t take the short cut on this one. A glass of wine while chowing down pizza in between cleaning off the kids’ hands and plates does not equal self care! Take 10 minutes some place quiet. Head out to the back porch, wander down to the basement, or lock yourself in the bathroom. Take the time to clear your mind and enjoy that glass. A cute wine glass helps too. I have about 17 in my cupboard right now that I pick depending on my current mood. Here’s one from my shop for when you are just having one of those days.
This is something I just started adding into my daily routine. I’m not perfect…actually I forgot this morning. *insert eye roll here* But taking 5 minutes really helps me when I’m feeling frustrated or overwhelmed. I’ve been using Headspace which has a great little introductory course that I’m still working my way through.
