I have a theory. It’s a theory that led me to be a six figure seller on Etsy. Here’s how it goes. There is a full pyramid of things you need to start getting daily sales on Etsy. The base of the pyramid is Search Engine Optimization. We are going to talk about levels 2 and 3 later, but for now let’s start at the beginning.
What is SEO?
SEO is the way Etsy uses your tags and titles to help determine how you should rank in search. The algorithm also takes sales, reviews, and a few other things into account, but it all starts with SEO. So what does this mean for you and your shop? You NEED to be using effective titles and tags on Etsy to show up in search and start getting traffic to your shop.
Best SEO Practices:
While my process is more involved than this, here is what Etsy says as far as best practices for SEO and making sure you rank in search.
1. Use 2-3 word tags – You can’t type in single word tags and expect the algorithm to figure out what you are selling and how to rank you.
2. Match your most important tags and titles – Etsy sees your keywords as more important if your title keywords match your tags.
3. Use search phrases that buyers are using – There a lot of ways to research this! Find your favorite! I go over all of them in my SEO course, but everyone has their favorites. It’s important to use the exact phrases that buyers are using so you can start showing up in searches more often!
We go WAY further in depth into all of this in my Etsy SEO course. It’s an easy to get through course that takes you through my exact SEO process that led me to making over $30k in revenue in my shop’s second year and to even get to the first page of Etsy’s Mother’s Day search.
